2022 Kleinlerer Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast (Sustainably farmed)
Sonoma County, California

OK, fellow wine nerd. This wine is a blend of two clones: Pommard and Dijon 828. The Pommard clone, brought into the United States from France, is expressive in its aromatics, redolent of wild strawberry, bing cherry and sandalwood. The Dijon 828 adds tannic structure and notes of blackberry and red plum. When you taste the wine, you can actually feel the effects of both clones. Cool, huh?

The Pinot Noir is made by hand using native yeast, and aged in neutral oak barrels. It is 50% whole cluster, unfined, unfiltered, and produced with minimal sulfur. While it’s “natural” per European standards, it’s bright and luscious on your palate.

90 Points “The 25 Best Pinot Noirs for 2024Hannah Staab, Vinepair, April 17, 2024
“This Pinot Noir comes from the sustainably farmed Starscape Vineyard in Sonoma County. It has an earthy nose with notes of tart cherries and orange zest. The palate brings juicy red fruit and bright acidity, and lands on a slightly savory note…This wine really brings the juicy cherry notes that Pinot is loved for, with hints of orange zest and earth that add intrigue. Fresh acidity makes this an easy-drinking wine you can enjoy without food or even with a slight chill.”

Full-bodied and quite rich in mouthfeel, with black plums, black cherries and a touch of vanilla bean. Moderate tannins are absorbed by the smooth texture for a polished, soft effect.” JG, May 3, 2024
